Mandolin Scooped Fretboard Extension
Please select a link below:
The fretboard extension on a mandolin has frets that are so close together that most players do not utilize these upper playing positions. Although mandolin owners often enjoy the classic look of the extension, players often do not like the cumbersome results of contact between the pick and the fretboard extension. For this reason, a large number of players prefer a scooped, or recessed fretboard extension.
The process of scooping a fretboard extension consists of removing the frets at the extension, trimming back the fretboard and gluing wood or binding into the barren fret slots.
